How to share files and folders using the Proton Drive mobile apps

Proton Drive mobile apps let you conveniently and securely share your files and folders from your iPhone/iPad or Android phone or tablet.

This article explains how to create, copy, and share a link to your file or folder. It also shows you how to set a password or expiration date for extra protection and how to stop sharing a file or folder.

First download and open Proton Drive

  1. Go to your device’s app store and search for Proton Drive.
  2. Install the app and open it to see your main Proton Drive files screen.
  3. You can always return to this screen by selecting Files at the bottom of your screen or My files from your settings menu (☰).

iPhone or iPad (iOS/iPadOS)

Create a link to a file or folder

  1. Tap the horizontal three dots next to the file or folder you’d like to share.
  2. Select Share via link.
  3. A link will be created for your file or folder that can be copied and shared.
  4. On the main files screen, a small link icon will appear next to the item. (Only in list view.)
  5. All items with links can be viewed on the shared screen, accessed by tapping Shared at the bottom of your files screen.

Copy and share a link

  1. To copy or share a link that has already been created, tap the horizontal three dots next to the file or folder.
  2. Select Sharing options.
  3. Copy link to save, use, or share it anywhere.
  4. Or you can Share it via your installed apps.

Set a password

  1. Tap the horizontal there dots next to the file or folder.
  2. Select Share via link or Sharing options.
  3. Tap inside the Password protection field and enter a password.
  4. Tap Save at the top right to set the password.
  5. Anyone who wants to access your file or folder will need both the link and the password.

Set an expiration date

  1. Tap the three horizontal dots next to the file or folder.
  2. Select Share via link or Sharing options.
  3. Tap inside the Expiration date field to toggle on the expiration date setting.
  4. Tap on the date to pop up a calendar and choose your preferred expiration date — up to 90 days in the future. Tap on the date again to close the calendar.
  5. Tap Save to set the expiration date.

Stop sharing

  1. Tap the horizontal three dots next to the file or folder.
  2. Select Share via link or Sharing options.
  3. Select Stop sharing and confirm the action.

Android

Share via emails

1. Tap the vertical three dots next to the file or folder you want to share.

2. Select Share

3. Add the recipient email in the Add people field

4. You can also assign Editor or Viewer access permission (the default option is Editor)

5. The recipient will receive an email with an invitation to access the shared file or folder

Create a share link to a file or folder

You can also share files and folders via public links. In order to do so, you need to follow the following steps:

1. Tap the vertical three dots next to the file or folder you want to share.

2. Select Manage access.

3. Create a share link by toggling on Share with anyone.

4. You can now copy the link and share your link anywhere.

Set a password and expiration date

1. After creating a share link, you can add a password by tapping Link settings and toggling on Password protection.

2. Add a password of your choice.

3. To set an expiration date for the link, tap inside the Expiration date field to open a calendar.

4. Choose your preferred expiration date — up to 90 days in the future. Tap OK to select.

5. Tap Save to set the expiration date.

Stop sharing a link

1. Tap the vertical three dots next to a shared file or folder.

2. Select Manage access.

3. Select Stop sharing and confirm the action.
