How to change your free trial’s billing cycle
Depending on the billing cycle you chose at signup, you’ll be charged on a monthly or annual basis when your subscription begins.
Switching from annual to monthly payments during the trial will allow you to continue using the trial, and your payment method will only be charged at the end of the trial.
However, switching from monthly to annual payments during your free trial will automatically forfeit the remainder of your trial, and your payment method will be charged immediately.

1. On the Proton login page, enter your account details and click Sign in.

2. Select a Proton app.
3. Click through the account settings. You’ll be redirected to your Proton Account dashboard. Click Customize plan under your free trial plan.

3. On the Review subscription popup, look for the Select your plan section, then click the option you wish to switch to.

4. On the next screen, ensure all your details are correct, then either:
- Click Confirm (if you’re switching from annual to monthly payments), or
- Click Cancel trial and pay (if you’re switching from monthly to annual payments).

If you chose to switch from monthly to annual payments, your free trial will be canceled and your payment method will be charged for the first year. Your subscription will renew automatically every year unless canceled.
